Village

Showing movies has long been a tradition with Village Roadshow, having started in 1954 with the first of its drive-in cinemas. Today, Village Roadshow jointly owns and operates approximately 600 cinemas across 3 countries, and continues to lead the world in providing state-of-the-art entertainment experiences. In Australia, Village Cinemas is one of the country’s largest exhibitors with a large share of screens across all Australian states. The Cinema Exhibition division operates predominantly in Australia, Singapore and the United States mainly through joint ventures with Greater Union in Australia and Orange Sky Golden Harvest in Singapore.

Since its inception, Village Cinemas has not only expanded the number of cinemas it operates, it has enriched the cinema-going experience through the creation of ‘entertainment destinations’ aiming to increase attendances and improve the world of cinema. The division has also sought to widen the appeal of going to the movies by creating new concept cinemas attractive to a broader demographic and providing entertainment in true style.

Traditional cinemas are now boosting quality ambience through stadium seating and digital cinema projection which is poised to spread in popularity in the movie industry due to the crisper, cleaner picture and sound quality. As industry leaders in digital projection, Village Cinemas is dedicated to creating more substantial experiences through digital films which do not degrade over time even after being played over extended periods. This creates opportunities in showcasing past and present movies, alternative content such as concerts and documentaries, and 3D feature films.

Village Cinemas has followed 3D exhibition into the digital era and has implemented impressive technology from RealD, the world’s first and leading stereoscopic projection system for digital cinema, to bring guests into a whole new dimension and allow them to become truly immersed in the movie experience that they jump out of their seats. There are over 2,000 digital cinema projectors installed in the 3D-ready auditoriums to ensure the film quality is perfect from the first screening to the last. First deployed in 2005, the RealD 3D system is now the most widely developed 3D projection system in the world with over 5,000 installations worldwide.

Another unique offering from Village Cinemas are premium sites such as Gold Class, Cinema Europa, and Vmax. Gold Class Cinemas are superbly designed to provide guests with a luxuriously intimate setting and first class quality films, food, beverages and service. Each Gold Class Cinema features fully electronic, lavish reclining armchairs, super-wide wall-to-wall screens and the latest in digital picture and audio. Additionally, Gold Class Cinemas boast a full service bar, lounge and gourmet food with personal waiter service during each screening.

Cinema Europa appeals to the true movie connoisseur by screening the finest films in a sophisticated environment and provides higher levels of comfort than traditional cinemas.
